KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP is set to meet with other state Pakatan Harapan component parties to discuss its position in the state government amidst an alleged corruption scandal involving several assemblymen.
The DAP central executive committee (CEC) granted a full mandate to the state chapter on Tuesday (Dec 10) to reconsider its role in the state administration and decide on the next course of action.
Sabah DAP chief Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe indicated that the meeting with other Sabah Pakatan parties will take place soon.
"We will discuss with other Pakatan component parties before making any necessary decision," he said when contacted on Wednesday (Dec 11).
It is also understood that other components—PKR, Amanah, and Upko—could also reassess their roles in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led government in a meeting expected to take place on Sunday (Dec 15).
Sabah Pakatan has two ministers in the state Cabinet: Phoong, who is the Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister, and Sabah PKR’s Datuk Christina Liew, who is the Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister.
Additionally, Sabah DAP’s Tan Lee Fatt is the Assistant Finance Minister, and PKR’s Datuk Peto Galim is the Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industries Assistant Minister.
Some Sabah Pakatan assemblymen also head state government-linked companies.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke stated after the CEC meeting on Tuesday night that the Sabah DAP chairman had provided a detailed explanation of the issue following several videos implicating senior leaders in the state government in an alleged corruption scandal.
Loke said the CEC reaffirmed DAP’s zero-tolerance stance on corrupt practices and urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to thoroughly investigate the matter.
On Monday (Dec 9), MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said they were conducting two separate investigations—one involving alleged corruption by Sabah assemblymen and another targeting a whistleblower.
Azam said the investigations were distinct, with one involving the whistleblower and a senior officer linked to mineral exploration, while the other involves corruption allegations against Sabah assemblymen.
He added that the MACC had recorded numerous statements, including from Sabah assemblymen and a whistleblower.
Chief Minister and GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor denied the allegations implicating GRS leaders, saying the accusations were politically motivated and designed to destabilise the government.
