IPOH: Efforts to track the crocodile spotted at Pantai Teluk Batik in Lumut have been going on since this Friday (Dec 13) morning.
Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the operations were being carried out by the Perak Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan), together with the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM).
"Information regarding the incident has been passed on to the local authorities," he said in a statement Friday (Dec 13).
He said this followed a police report lodged at 11.11am Friday over sightings of a crocodile in the area by the public at 12.45pm on Thursday (Dec 12).
"The complainant was at Jeti Vale, Teluk Rubiah, Lumut, when he sighted the crocodile and recorded a video to warn those around the beach to stay cautious.
"The recording has been circulated across social media and the complainant has also lodged a police report to confirm the incident," he said.
ACP Hasbullah advised the public to exercise caution with water-related activities, especially recreational activities on the beach.
"Anyone with information on the incident may contact the Manjung operations room at 05-688 6222 or the WhatsApp hotline at 017-682 8005," he said.
It was previously reported that Perak Perhilitan was monitoring the surroundings of Pantai Teluk Batik following the sighting of a crocodile in the area on Thursday.
State Perhilitan director Yusoff Shariff said no traps have been set as the department is prioritising observation, and urged visitors to the area to be careful.
It was reported that at 2.24pm on Thursday, a Civil Defence patrol team had received information, including a video recording, of the crocodile near a jetty owned by Vale Mineral (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in Teluk Rubiah.
Civil Defence conducted surveillance and confirmed the presence of the reptile. Subsequently, Perak Perhilitan began monitoring the situation.
