GUIDED by the vision of “Creating Tomorrow & Beyond”, Eco World Development Group Bhd (EcoWorld) is committed to not only building homes but also creating sustainable communities.
“When we first started 11 years ago, the premise of the word ‘EcoWorld’ itself was to do everything we wanted – internally and externally – based on sustainability,” reflects EcoWorld president and chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah.
EcoWorld’s vision extends beyond construction; it fosters sustainable communities for generations to come.
Its philosophy embraces a wholesome approach to the 3Ps (people, profit and planet), encompassing environmental stewardship, community engagement and technological innovation.
“At EcoWorld, we like to try doing things in a new way where it can be more controlled, thought-oriented, and with less wastage,” he explains, adding that their design principles have always been rooted in long-term sustainability, even before environmental, social and governance (ESG) became a prevalent concept.
Evolving with times
Chang also notes that EcoWorld’s approach to community building is rooted in the belief that residents and stakeholders are active participants in shaping their environment.
“We aim to create safe and secure neighbourhoods where people and businesses flourish. Our projects are designed to provide access to better amenities, modern infrastructure, and quality education, enabling residents and their future generations to grow.”
The developer’s approach focuses on immediate residential needs and cultivating long-term values within their real estate developments.
This translates into partnerships and collaborations with a network of partners, particularly in commercial areas, cultivating vibrant and thriving communities.
These commercial zones aim to become central hubs within each community, attracting businesses and residents alike.
This strategic planning allows EcoWorld to transform suburban areas into dynamic centres that not only meet current needs but also lay the foundation for innovative and sustainable urban spaces.
EcoWorld’s diverse portfolio, ranging from townships to vertical living solutions and business parks, showcases a harmonious blend of sustainability and innovation, highlighting its commitment to responsible development practices.
This vision has evolved over the past decade as the company has expanded its focus to include five key pillars: Eco Townships, Eco Rise, Eco Hubs, Eco Business Parks and QUANTUM.
“Our approach is not just about structures; it’s about fostering legacies that endure for generations. Our goal is to build communities that thrive,” adds Chang.
Fostering sustainability
EcoWorld deputy chief executive officer Liew Tian Xiong shares that the company’s sustainability efforts have been integral since its inception.
“Sustainability has been part of EcoWorld from the start. We have always treasured our built environment and work to preserve the areas where we build,” he says.
This approach is evident in the way EcoWorld prioritises nature in its developments, often retaining existing trees to create greener, more sustainable environments.
This commitment to sustainability goes beyond merely preserving green spaces, as it extends into the company’s daily practices and underlying culture.
“Internally, we’ve already managed to cut down paper usage by 80% just by re-evaluating and digitising some of our operations and processes,” he says.
EcoWorld even organises engagement activities for its surrounding communities, such as recycling campaigns and cleanup initiatives while assisting schools and orphanages through the Eco World Foundation.
Liew notes that these initiatives reflect EcoWorld’s ongoing push towards cultivating sustainable communities and reducing environmental impact, with green practices embedded across all levels of the company, fostering a sustainable future for generations to come.
“It’s about creating a culture where sustainability is everyone’s responsibility. So, everyone at EcoWorld has a ‘green KPI’ and is involved in making us more sustainable for the future,” he says.
