PETALING JAYA: The next monsoon surge for Malaysia is expected to take place from Monday to Friday (Dec 16 to 20), says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In an advisory issued on Thursday (Dec 12), it said this could cause continuous rain on the east coast of the peninsula.

Also expected to see continuous rain during this time are the southern and western parts of Sarawak, and eastern Sabah.

"The public is advised to consistently refer to the website www.met.gov.my, MetMalaysia’s official social media platforms, and download the myCuaca application for the latest and accurate information," the advisory read.

As of Friday (Dec 13), the warning for continuous rain at alert level (yellow) is still on for the state of Perlis, and parts of Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik and Baling), Perak (Hulu Perak), and Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai).

Also at alert level is Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu).
