Big haul of drugs and contraband


KANGAR: The Perlis Customs Department seized ganja, ketum leaves and various undeclared goods valued at more than RM100,000, between Nov 21 and Dec 11.

State Customs director Ismail Hashim said the seized ganja weighed 30.02kg, with a value of RM93,200, while the ketum leaves weighed 60kg, valued at RM2,400.

He said that on Nov 28, Customs also seized 30.01kg of ganja worth RM93,000 during an inspection at the Bukit Putih coastal embankment area in Kuala Perlis.

An additional 10g worth RM200 was seized on Dec 2 from a van passenger at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex in Padang Besar.

Ketum leaves worth RM2,400, weighing 60kg, was seized on Dec 11 at Kampung Sungai Baru, Simpang Empat.

Undeclared goods were also seized including used furniture worth RM5,400, falsely declared as wood powder on Nov 21 at the Kuala Perlis Cargo Jetty, 1,384 undeclared cigarettes worth RM423 from a residential property in Kuala Perlis on Nov 29, and 30 litres of undeclared liquor worth RM9,200 was found in a bag at a ferry terminal on Dec 10.
