KOTA KINABALU: This year's Christmas will be memorable for James Kindayas as he and his family celebrate in their new home at Kampung Waag, Kundasang.
The 45-year-old construction worker is a recipient of the Sabah Electricity People’s Friendly Housing Assistance (BMR) Programme.
"Now, my wife, our four children, and I can live comfortably. We can enjoy a better quality of life.
We are looking forward to many Christmases here," he said after receiving the house key from Sabah Electricity Chief Executive Officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar.
BMR is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project by Sabah Electricity, providing recipients with a three-bedroom house, costing RM75,000 for construction.
This year, seven houses have been built in Tambunan, Tuaran, Ranau, Kundasang, Kinabatangan, Tawau, and Kimanis.
"The BMR project involves repairs, new construction, and funding for home purchases to support those in need, including persons with disabilities, single mothers, senior citizens, and the poor classified as asnaf (zakat tithe recipients)," said Mohd Yaakob.
Sabah Electricity launched the housing assistance project in 2020 to build new homes for the underprivileged and asnaf, reflecting its commitment to helping those in need.
