JOHOR BARU: It’s all about putting a smile on people’s faces.
Since the beginning of this month, about 100 people have been going around the city, sharing their Christmas joy with public performances and carolling sessions.
Besides sketches and songs, there are also quizzes from those coming to see them perform, said Pastor Crystaline Deborah Nagarajan from the Johor Baru Calvary Community Church (CCC).
Goodie bags, she said, would be given to those attending the events.
“We also give out vouchers during our quizzes,” she said, adding that they were happy to put a smile on people’s faces.
She said each public performance is about 35 minutes.
“The response has been good. Many children and adults would sing along and participate in the sessions. Some of the spectators include those from Singapore.”
Crystaline, together with her husband Jeffrey Ryan Seridran, have been actively involved in such public projects.
She said plans for the public performances and carolling started in September.
The performers, she said, comprised children, teenagers and adults.
“This year, we split our teams into two with one doing public performances in malls while the carolling group goes to smaller venues such as hotels.
“We expect to have at least 15 performances. We have been busy on weekends since the beginning of this month and this is expected to continue until Dec 22.
“Everyone has put a lot of effort into this. This is the first time after the Covid-19 pandemic that we have started public performances,” she said.
Last year, she said they went carolling to about 15 homes, but they decided to do it in public places this year.
As for their Christmas service, she said it would be held at the Danga Bay Convention Centre on Dec 22 while the New Year service would take place at the EduCity indoor stadium on Dec 28.
