Students, parents flock to Star Education Fair 2024 in Penang


GEORGE TOWN: Many showed up to see what was on offer at the Star Education Fair 2024 on Saturday (Dec 14) at the Setia Spice Convention Centre.

Organised by Star Media Group, the two-day fair, which ends on Sunday (Dec 15) offers various tertiary study options and financial assistance such as study loans and scholarships, with a total of 32 institutions, occupying 52 booths.

Hundreds of eager students with their families thronged the convention centre from as early as 10am to explore the many programmes offered.

Among the early birds was R. Dhiviya, 25, who came with her elder brother and mother to explore her options for continuing her post-graduate studies.

"Currently I am working as a data analyst in George Town, and at the same time I want to pursue my studies to a higher level," she said.

She said she got to know about the Star Education Fair from social media and decided to come and have a look.

She said the education fair was a good platform for prospective students like her to see what options they have to pursue their studies.

Another early bird was Lau Xin Ru, 20, who came with her parents from Bukit Mertajam as early as 10am at the education fair.

"I am planning to continue my degree in broadcasting because I like to write scripts and work behind the scenes in production," she said.

She said she also looking forward to other courses as well which are related to her diploma in broadcasting from her college days at Hanchiang University College of Communication.

Special student Yoong Chee Hong, 15, from Chung Ling High School said he came with his parents to look at options for disabled students like him after SPM.

"Although I am still in Form Three, I want to see which university or college can accommodate disabled students like me in the future," he said.

He said among the booths that he visited during the first day of the education fair was the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) booth which he thought was friendly to disabled students like him.

He said he was looking forward to surveying other booths as well during the first day of the event.

The exhibitors during the two-day event are the Han Chiang University College of Communication (HCUC), Peninsula College Malaysia, Mahsa University, Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM), Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), INCEIF University, Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and London School of Business and Finance (LSBF).

Other exhibitors are the United Kingdom Education Centre (UKEC), Universiti Malaya (UM), Inti International University & Colleges, Open University Malaysia (OUM), Kolej MDIS Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC), Equator College, EduClaas Malaysia, 21 MI Academy, Wawasan Open University (WOU), Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN), DISTED College International Medical University (IMU), Methodist College Kuala Lumpur, Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), UTeM Pengajian Siswazah and University of Cyberjaya (UoC).

The fair is open from 11am to 7pm. Admission is free with door gifts for early birds.

The Star Education Fair, which is in its 37th year, is one of the country’s pioneer education exhibitions. It has continuously provided visitors with educational programmes ranging from pre-university, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate to professional and vocational courses from various local and international institutions.
