Man discovers abandoned baby behind Sitiawan surau


IPOH: A man cleaning the area around a surau in Sitiawan was shocked to find a wailing baby in some bushes behind the building.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said police received a call from the public at about 6.45pm on Saturday (December 14) regarding the incident.

"Police were informed that the baby was wrapped in a cloth and was found in some bushes behind the Permatang Village surau.

A surau committee member who came to clean the surrounding area heard the sound of a baby crying. Following the sound, he was shocked to find a baby," he said in a statement on Sunday (December 15).

ACP Hasbullah said the baby has been referred to the Seri Manjung Hospital for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code.
