IPOH: In less than four hours after a robbery at a pharmacy in Taiping was reported, police arrested the suspect.
The 20-year-old suspect was found with the knife used in the robbery and the stolen cash at the time of his arrest.
Taiping OCPD Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the victim, a 28-year-old woman, lodged a report on Dec 14 at about 10.27pm, stating that the suspect had carried out the robbery while armed with a knife.
He explained that the suspect had threatened the woman, an assistant at the pharmacy, with a knife.
"She was forced to hand over the cash at the register machine, and she did so after fearing for her safety," he said.
ACP Mohamad Nasir stated that, based on the victim's report, policemen from the criminal investigation division conducted surveillance and gathered information about the suspect.
Thanks to swift action, the 20-year-old suspect was arrested in less than four hours after the report was lodged.
"Police seized a knife and the cash he robbed, which he was yet to use.
"The suspect has two previous criminal records involving robberies," he noted.
ACP Mohamad Nasir said the case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code.
"The suspect is remanded for six days until Dec 20," he added.
