KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman will prioritise border security to protect the country from any threats, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
He said the police will utilise the RM560mil allocated under Budget 2025 to the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) to boost border security nationwide.
"The funds will be used to step up efforts in combating smuggling and human trafficking," he said during the handing-over ceremony for the Bukit Aman KDNKA director’s post on Monday (December 16).
Comm Datuk Seri Azmin Abu Kassim takes over as the director, replacing Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali, the current Malaysian Checkpoints and Border Agency (MCBA) director-general.
Comm Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid has been appointed as the new Bukit Aman Management Department director, replacing Comm Azmi.
The IGP highlighted the importance of boosting border security to prevent terrorist groups from infiltrating remote areas in Sabah, which could disrupt the nation’s economic growth and jeopardise public safety.
"Comm Azmi will have a challenging task as the new KDNKA director, but I am confident he will successfully lead the department.
Supported by extensive assets and more than 25,600 personnel across land, sea, and air operations, Comm Azmi will be able to fulfil his responsibilities effectively," he said.
He added that Comm Abdul Aziz will continue the good work done by his predecessor and further improve it.
"The KDNKA personnel and officers have done a tremendous job this year with various operations that led to over RM926mil in smuggled items being seized. Such success must be commended as it has improved the police force's reputation," he said.
