Crackdown on illegal parking in Bukit Bintang

KL JSPT personnel conduct the operation to curb illegal parking around Bukit Bintang on Saturday (Dec 14).

KUALA LUMPUR: The police are coming down hard on traffic offenders who park illegally around the Bukit Bintang area, causing massive congestion, especially during weekends.

More than 100 traffic summonses were issued following a joint operation, led by the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said a total of 119 summonses were issued for traffic obstruction or illegal parking during the operation held between 10pm on Saturday and 1am yesterday.

“Six vehicles were towed for obstructing traffic. We discovered many drivers are still stubborn and commit traffic obstruction.

“This operation is aimed at curbing such offences for the benefit of road users,” he said.

The police also focused on motorcyclists with 76 summonses issued.

“Among the offences were not having a driving licence, expired licence, no side mirrors, fancy number plates and expired road tax,” he added.

DCP Azry Akmar said the Road Transport Department issued 60 summonses while the Kuala Lumpur City Hall issued 121 summonses.

“A total of 12 officers and 79 personnel were involved in the operation at Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Ceylon, Jalan Changkat, Jalan Berangan, Jalan Walter Granier and Jalan Tengkat Tong Shin,” he said.

“We will continue with similar operations to ensure all road users abide by traffic regulations.

“Those with any queries or information can contact the KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or Traffic police station hotline at 03-2026 0267/69 or the nearest police station,” he added.
