Hit-and-run driver arrested after vehicle catches fire on KL highway

KUALA LUMPUR: The driver of a Mercedes car that caught fire at KM 18.1 of the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) has been remanded for suspected involvement in a hit-and-run incident that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.

Head of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa stated that the remand order against the 34-year-old male driver was issued to facilitate investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The incident occurred at about 12.35pm, where the driver of the Mercedes allegedly hit a motorcyclist at KM 8 of SPE after the Chan Sow Lin Toll Plaza.

This collision resulted in the motorcyclist being thrown onto the road, suffering severe injuries to the head, face, and stomach. However, the car driver did not stop and continued driving towards Wangsa Maju before his vehicle caught fire at KM 18.1 of the SPE.
