Malaysian trio goes global

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s top content creators, Yu Wei (@yweii_9), Peh Qin Rou (@joppc1231), and Adelyn Heng (@adelynheng9319), are set to compete with leading talent from over 90 countries in the prestigious Global LIVE Fest Tournament.

TikTok said the trio, selected through an elimination process during TikTok LIVE Fest, stood out for their creativity, connection with fans, and expertise in hosting live sessions.

The Global LIVE Fest Tournament will begin tomorrow, with the final event taking place in London on Jan 16.

“Their journey continues as they prepare to showcase their creativity on the global stage, bringing their unique Malaysian flair to the competition. Follow @tiktoklive_my for the latest updates and behind-the-scenes content from our creators as they prepare for the global stage,” TikTok said in a statement yesterday, according to Bernama.

It said the LIVE Fest was conceptualised to encourage more creators to go LIVE on TikTok while providing greater opportunities for them to monetise their content. It also showcases the platform’s diverse range of creators and content.

“We also aim to encourage engagement and highlight the value of gifting in LIVE streams, motivating more users to support and appreciate their favourite creators by using the gifting feature,” the statement added.

It noted that all three Malaysian representatives had their unique stories before being selected as the top regional creators of the year on TikTok LIVE.

For example, Yu Wei initially feared being in front of the camera. However, with her friends’ encouragement and the platform provided by TikTok LIVE, she found the courage to press the “Go Live” button.

“Inspired by many who turned to TikTok as a means to sustain their livelihoods, she found great comfort and ease through her collaboration with W Talent Agency on TikTok, which ultimately led her to become the champion in TikTok LIVE Fest Malaysia,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, Qin Rou turned her challenges into triumphs after joining W Talent Agency on TikTok and discovering live-streaming as a means of sharing her passion for singing.

As for Adelyn, who transitioned from banking to live-streaming, she took the initiative to create the “Peach Family”, a supportive community dedicated to spreading joy and sharing her remarkable journey on TikTok LIVE, the statement added.

“My journey isn’t about trophies, but about the hearts of my Peach Family, who’ve shared love and strength with me.

“From humble beginnings to incredible milestones, this is a story of passion, resilience, and our unstoppable spirit – together, we’ll soar to greater heights,” she said.
