Johor health dept to probe Skudai restaurant over claims it served discarded veggies

JOHOR BARU: The state health department is investigating claims that a restaurant in Skudai has been serving vegetables retrieved from a dumpster.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon stated that the investigation began on Monday (Dec 16), with further checks planned.

"The Johor Baru district health department visited the restaurant on Monday (Dec 16), but it was closed.

"They will return today (Dec 17) to investigate these allegations," he remarked in response to the issue circulating on social media.

Ling noted that enforcement officers visited the dumpster's location where the vegetables were allegedly taken.

A video showing several people, including the alleged owner of a popular Skudai restaurant, collecting vegetables from dumpsters has been circulating online.

The owner is accused of using the discarded vegetables in her restaurant.

In her defence, the owner has denied the allegations, claiming she has receipts to prove the vegetables served are freshly purchased.
