Man injured as fire rages through house in Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: A man sustained serious burns on his body as he ran through flames to escape from his burning house.

Woo Chee Ke, 54, lived on the first floor of an apartment unit in Kolombong near here, and was believed to have been sleeping when he woke up to the heat and smoke.

Fire Station chief for Lintas Agustavia Joe Guasi said they received a call about the incident at around 12.49am, Tuesday (Dec 17), and a team was rushed to the scene.

“Our team arrived at the scene at around 12.53am, and the fire was brought under control at 1.12am,” she said.

She said the victim had run out of his burning house and sustained burns of around 80% on his body while the house was about 20% damaged.

“He was immediately rushed to the hospital,” said Agustavia, adding the man was still unstable.

She said operations on site ceased at 1.42am and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

No other damages or casualties were reported in the fire.
