Ministry launches document on technical guidelines for transition of govt fleets into EVs

PUTRAJAYA: A document entailing technical guidelines for the transition of government fleets to electric vehicles (EV) was launched by the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES).

Its minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the guidelines contain several components which include planning, implementation, maintenance and transition evaluation.

“This guideline is also implemented under the Low Carbon Mobility Plan 2021-2030, which is aligned with the net zero goal by 2050,” he told reporters at his ministry building here on Tuesday (Dec 17).

Also launched was a direct current fast charging station (DCFS) at the ministry’s complex, which was the first one installed in government buildings in Putrajaya.

Nik Nazmi said that the transition of government fleets to EV has started in stages.

“We will see that government fleets will be using EV fleets by next year,” he added.

Following the announcement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the usage of Proton’s e.MAS7 as the official fleet for Asean 2025, Nik Nazmi said this would be the first time ever that the EV fleet be used in the summit.

“However, depending on the needs of the officials, there will also be other EV brands to be used throughout the summit,” he said.

On Monday (Dec 16), Anwar had announced that the use of e.MAS7 would also reflect the government's commitment to supporting the joint venture between national car manufacturer Proton and Chinese automaker Geely.
