PETALING JAYA: Selangor Pakatan Harapan has called for the halting of any action that would disrupt the state’s political stability and administration.
The statement comes following reports that Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz plans to leave Umno for PKR and could be appointed as the next Selangor Mentri Besar.
In a statement issued yesterday, Selangor Pakatan said the reports have caused unease among the people of Selangor.
“Selangor is known as a developed state and is the largest contributor to Malaysia’s GDP.
“The progress of Selangor is the result of political stability in the state and the people’s trust in continuing to support Pakatan and the unity government during the last state election,” Selangor Pakatan information chief Abbas Salimi Che Adzmi @ Azmi said in the statement yesterday.
Abbas Salimi, who is Seri Serdang assemblyman, has issued the statement together with his assistant information chiefs Halimey Abu Bakar and Wong Siew Ki, who is Seri Kembangan assemblyman.
Abbas Salimi said the state has made strides under the leadership of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the state executive council.
Abbas Salimi also reminded the people that when the Selangor Ruler, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, presented the appointment letter to Amirudin to be the Mentri Besar, His Royal Highness had expressed his wish to see the state government be maintained until the end of its term.
“This shows how important political stability is in Selangor. Any action must prioritise the interests of the state and the people of Selangor and should not be driven by personal or certain group interests,” he added.
He also urged the Selangor government to continue focusing on providing services and assistance to the people, regardless of the reports.
At a Christmas open house event on Dec 14, Amirudin had said he would continue to prioritise maintaining stability in the state and that there would be no changes in his administration amid talk about Tengku Zafrul’s political future.
Amirudin also dismissed claims suggesting that he may step down as the Mentri Besar before the end of his term.
On Sunday, Tengku Zafrul confirmed that there had been an initial discussion with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is Pakatan chairman and PKR president, over the former’s future political direction.
However, Tengku Zafrul, who is Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, emphasised that no decision had been made yet and dismissed claims that the discussion involved giving him a position at state level or holding any by-election.
Earlier on Sunday, Anwar had also confirmed that preliminary discussions were under way about the possibility of Tengku Zafrul joining PKR.
