GEORGE TOWN: Police busted a local drug syndicate with drugs worth RM3mil seized in a series of raids.

Deputy CPO Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said that on Dec 6, five houses in George Town and Butterworth were raided in which six people, including two women, were nabbed.

He said the drugs seized comprised 9,822gm of ketamine, 17,050 Eramin 5 pills, 1,503gm of ecstasy, 250.64gm of methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) and 3.2gm of cannabis, Bernama reported.

He said another raid on a luxury condominium unit in Sungai Nibong on Dec 13 showed that the place was used by the syndicate to store drugs.

No arrest was made during the raid, but 55,250 Eramin 5 pills, 382gm of ketamine and 50 ecstasy pills were found there, he added.“Investigations revealed that the syndicate had been active since early this year and received their supplies from an international drug ring for sale in the local market, especially at entertainment outlets here,” he told reporters yesterday.

Police also seized nine vehicles worth RM755,500, jewellery worth RM800 and RM26,085 in cash.

The six are being remanded until Dec 20 to facilitate further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
