Three family members killed in car crash

MERSING: A 36-year-old man and his elderly parents were killed following an accident at KM45 Jalan Kota Tinggi-Mersing here.

The man’s five-year-old daughter was injured in the crash.

Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said police were alerted about the accident at around 8.30pm on Sunday.

“Early investigations revealed that the accident happened when a 28-year-old driver lost control of his sedan while travelling from Kuantan, Pahang, to Johor Baru.

“The car then veered to the opposite lane and collided with another car that the family of four was in,” he said when contacted.

Supt Abdul Razak said the driver of the second car suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at Hospital Mersing.

“His parents, aged 65 and 71, who were passengers in the car, died at the scene from severe head injuries.

“The driver’s five-year-old daughter also suffered head injuries and is currently being treated at Hospital Sultan Ismail,” he said, adding that the girl is now in stable condition.

The victims were from Felcra Sungai Ara, Kota Tinggi.

Supt Abdul Razak said the driver of the sedan also sustained serious injuries and broke his arm.

“He is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Sultan Ismail,” Supt Abdul Razak said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
