Cops hunt suspect for stealing money from unlocked car


IPOH: The police are on the hunt for an individual who was recorded on closed circuit television (CCTV) stealing at a house in Taman Klebang Putra here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the man is believed to have stolen some money from a car that was on the car porch.

"We found a video about the incident that had gone viral on Facebook since Tuesday (Dec 17).

"We received a report from the 36-year-old victim on the same day at 12.56pm," he said in a statement.

"The CCTV recording showed the man entering the victim's house by climbing over a wall from the house next door.

"He entered the car of the victim's wife, which was unlocked, and took some money that was put on the dashboard," he said, adding that no damages were reported during the incident.

ACP Abang Zainal said the matter would be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

"Those with information can contact investigating officer Sjn Ibrahim Ab Wahab on 019-822 5877 or come forward to the nearest police station," he said.

"We also want to remind the people not to take actions that are unlawful or speculate on the incident to avoid confusion and anxiety," he added.

Several video clips of the man, who was wearing a cap, a hoodie and short pants, had been shared on social media.

In one of them, the man was seen opening the car door before entering the vehicle, and in another, the man was seen to have taken a helmet from the house before getting away.
