PETALING JAYA: The Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) has teamed up with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society to provide more than 1,900 boxes of much needed aid to flood-stricken areas across the country.
Through CRSM’s GoCare charity crowdfunding platform initiative, the organisational collaboration saw these disaster relief supplies reach the hands of Malaysians in Kelantan and Kedah affected by the floods.
Among these crucial supplies were 300 boxes of dry rations, 150 sets of cleaning tools and personal care products, CRSM elite team vice-leader Laiu Lian Kee said.
She added that the supplies were delivered in flood-hit areas of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan from Dec 13.
The timely aid comes as the second wave of floods beginning to impact the people, with Laiu adding that logistical issues caused by the flood have hampered recovery efforts.
To overcome this, she said CRSM gathered support from various groups to ensure aid supplies reached the affected communities on time with further plans to encourage more organisations to join in the recovery efforts.
“The widespread destruction caused by the floods, existing resources are insufficient to meet the basic needs of the victims which is why swift and efficient delivery of aid is critical to recovery.
“We aim to expand the post-disaster reconstruction efforts and work with NGOs under Nadma to carry out home cleaning tasks,” she said, adding that CRSM would be willing to provide the needed cleaning supplies in this regard.
GoCare manager Xilas Ngang also extended special thanks to the generous donations from several individuals, which included 150 cleaning sets donated by Rayaco that will be used to support the clean up efforts of 750 people in the two states.
Ngang also called for more volunteer teams, whether from businesses or individuals, to join in the effort to collect disaster relief supplies through GoCare.
“This will ensure comprehensive aid through both material and logistical assistance,” he said.
