Johor Regent meets FIFA president, discusses national team project

PETALING JAYA: Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim met with FIFA president Gianni Infantino in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday (Dec 17).

In a statement issued on his official social media pages, the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) owner said he met the FIFA premier to share information on the national team project, which will be overseen by His Royal Highness starting next year.

"Infantino was briefed on the national team project in Malaysia initiated by HRH (His Royal Highness) The Regent of Johor and that it has also received backing from the Malaysian government," said the statement on His Royal Highness' social media pages.

"Infantino expressed belief in the Regent of Johor-led national initiative and agreed to provide Malaysia support in terms of research, infrastructure and development," the post read.

The changes within the national setup kick-started with the announcement of Australian Peter Cklamovski as the new head coach on Monday (Dec 16), and also the appointment of Nafuzi Zain as the National Under-23 coach.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will soon announce the new technical director, football adviser and chief executive officer (CEO) of Harimau Malaya.
