Mukah plantation murder suspect arrested


SIBU: After three days on the run, a suspect involved in the murder of a foreign worker at an oil palm plantation in the Mukah district was arrested on Tuesday (Dec 17) evening.

Mukah OCPD Deputy Supt Muhamad Rizal Alias confirmed that the foreign suspect, in his 30s, was apprehended around 5km from the crime scene at 4.15pm.

"The arrest was made by a team from the Mukah district police headquarters which was conducting 'Op Kesan' in the oil palm plantation area. The suspect attempted to flee when confronted by the police," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 18).

Weapons and clothing used by the suspect during the incident were seized, and a urine test revealed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

In the incident on Dec 15, the victim, an Indonesian national, succumbed to severe neck and stomach injuries caused by being slashed with a sharp object.- Bernama
