SEREMBAN: Two brothers claimed trial at separate Magistrate's courts here to cheating two individuals of some RM458,000.
In the first court before magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli, Goh Ching Jin, 31 and Goh Kim Chai, 40 pleaded not guilty to a joint charge of cheating a 45-year-old man of RM265,680 by promising that they could supply him with alcoholic drinks when in actual fact they did not have any stock.
The accused, who are both soya bean milk sellers, were charged with committing the offence in front of a restaurant in Seremban 2 around 12.30pm on Dec 4.
They were charged under section 420 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same legislation.
Offenders can be jailed between one and one and 10 years, fined and whipped upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nik Nur 'Aqilah Syarfa Nik Zaidi then asked the court to set bail at RM7,000 pending remention.
However, counsel for both the accused K. Ponnusamy asked for a lower amount.
He said Ching Jin who was married had to also provide for his three children. Both the accused, he said, earned about RM2,000 a month each.
Magistrate Nurul Saqinah then set bail at RM4,000 with one surety for each of the accused and fixed Jan 21 for remention.
For the second charge before magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali, both the accused pleaded not guilty to a joint charge of cheating a 47-year-old man of RM192,002.
They had promised the alleged victim to supply him with alcoholic and carbonated drinks and cooking oil in exchange for the cash.
The duo allegedly committed the offence at a hypermarket in Nilai around noon on Feb 19 this year.
Deputy public prosecutor Norshafatihah Nor Azmi then asked bail to be set at RM10,000 for each of the accused.
Magistrate Syed Farid allowed bail of RM5,000 for each of the accused and also fixed Jan 21 for remention.
