MCMC told to probe missing funds from TikTok Shop accounts, says Fahmi

IPOH: The Communications Ministry has instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to address concerns raised by TikTok users regarding missing funds from e-commerce accounts on the platform, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister called for an investigation to identify the cause of what he described as a troubling "trend".

"We understand that many Malaysians, including those running micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs), rely on platforms like TikTok for business.

"If this trend is as concerning as reported, I have asked MCMC to engage with TikTok to fully understand the issue before making any announcements," he said at a press conference after the Perak Economic Outlook 2025 event on Thursday (Dec 19).

Also present were MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, senior advisor Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini and Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

TikTok users had earlier taken to social media, claiming that funds in their TikTok Shop accounts had disappeared or been reduced without any explanation or transactions.

Some users had reported losing up to thousands of ringgit.
