Unemployed man pleads guilty to molesting woman in toilet

KLUANG: An unemployed man has pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court here to outraging a 24-year-old woman’s modesty in a public toilet.

Muhamad Sopor@Nasir, 34, was accused of the act, which took place at the Laman Kreatif Kampung Melayu women’s washroom at around 5.30pm on Tuesday (Dec 17).

He was charged before Sessions judge Mujib Saroji on Thursday (Dec 19), where he pleaded guilty.

The offence was framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping, or any two of the punishments if found guilty.

When the judge asked Muhamad why he had a black eye, the accused claimed that he was punched by the victim.

“She entered my toilet (cubicle) yet I was blamed. My right eye is swollen because she punched me.

“I also want to ask for the bail to be reduced as I am still young,” he said.

The court granted bail at RM10,000 and fixed Jan 21 next year for the next mention at the Magistrate’s Court.

Insp Suniza Nan Yan prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented.

On Wednesday (Dec 18), Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh reportedly said that the man was nabbed by members of the public for allegedly trying to rape a woman inside a public toilet.

He was said to have used his weight to push the victim, causing her to fall to the floor before attempting to molest her.

According to the police, the suspect, who tested negative for drugs, had nine prior criminal and drug records.
