IPOH: The government has not lost sight of effecting reforms and remains on the right track, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said that the government was being careful to ensure things are moving, albeit slowly, so things are done correctly.
"We are a bit careful and will take a slightly longer time to ensure things are in place, to get the economy moving and to gain international recognition. Please be assured that we are on the right track," he said in his opening speech when launching DAP veteran Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang's "Malaysian First" books here on Friday (Dec 20).
"What's important is our commitment to change and reform, not our impatience in doing so and at the expense of national security and sustainability of the system.
"Please bear with us and support our endeavours. The stronger the support, the faster we can affect change," he added.
Anwar said it was not easy to effect reform, having inherited the system of the last few decades.
He added that it was also a challenge to convince their core supporters that they will continue the reform agenda.
Anwar also slammed critics who claimed that the government had failed to bring about reforms in the past two years.
He said some had remained silent even after he started the policy on good governance.
"You want us to affect change – I started good governance and I made sure no ministers or government leaders can influence tender processes," he said.
Also present included Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Deputy Law Minister M. Kulasegaran, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying and Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng and book author Kee Thuan Chye.
