No political links in Dec 31 anti-graft demo in KK, say organisers

KOTA KINABALU: The peaceful anti-graft demonstration scheduled for Dec 31 here is not politically motivated, says its university student organisers.

Perhimpunan Aman Gempur Rasuah Sabah aims to call for a clean and transparent investigation of ongoing corruption allegations against Sabah politicians, they add.

It also aims to serve as a reminder to all leaders and the rich to eliminate corrupt practices, and to urge the authorities not to stop the people from fighting for justice by, among others, holding rallies for issues that matter, said co-organiser Fadhil Kasim.

The third-year Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) student said there are no opposition parties behind the demonstration.

“We are also telling opposition parties not to make use of our cause for your agenda as some of your leaders are also (implicated) in corruption scandals,” he told a press conference here on Friday (Dec 20).

Fadhil, along with co-organisers Qistina Qaisara, Sudirman Arshad, Khairul Abidin and Fathimah Al-Haura, also informed the media that the police had granted them approval for the rally the day before.
