Artisanal products, cultural performances showcased at Johor Craft Festival


JOHOR BARU: Artisanal products and handicrafts made by more than 200 craftsmen are on full display at the annual Johor Craft Festival here.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry deputy secretary-general (culture) Datuk Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff said the event, which started on Dec 19, would go on until Dec 30 for the public to shop and get to know the local products.

“This is our 11th year organising this festival, which gathers craftsmen and entrepreneurs from different disciplines such as woodwork, metal-based crafts and earthenware from various parts of the country.

“Apart from exhibitions and sales, there are also cultural performances to promote our culture and heritage,” he said after launching the festival at Plaza Angsana here on Saturday (Dec 21).

Mohd Yusri said that they hoped to record a sales of RM9mil and 100,000 visitors in total throughout the event.

He added that families are encouraged to visit the festival with their children during the holiday season to expose them to local crafts.

The event, which starts at 10am until 10pm daily, includes workshops, games, performances and demonstrations.

Visitors can also watch experienced craftsman in action such as gambus master craftsman Halidan Ithnin, pottery master craftsman Zainab Husain and silver master craftsman Mohd Ariffin Wook.
