A MARRIAGE counsellor claims that he is seeing a worrying trend of older Muslim couples experiencing family crises, primarily caused by husbands secretly taking second wives.
Husim Salleh, who is based in Selangor, claimed that he sees over 15 such cases monthly involving couples in their 50s and 60s, Harian Metro reported.
“In most cases, husbands secretly take a second wife without the first wife’s knowledge or approval. When the secret comes out, it creates conflict within the family, often leading the first wife to seek a divorce,” said Husim.
Many of these men justify their actions by claiming that their older wives have gone through menopause and are no longer interested in being intimate.
“These older men then look for girlfriends in their 20s, while the younger women favour the more experienced man who is seen as more romantic and rich.”
Instead of working things out with their polygamous husbands, older women often seek to end their marriage despite being together for decades and raising children, he said.
