Man allegedly assaulted, held captive over pregnancy dispute

KOTA KINABALU: A man was allegedly beaten up, threatened and locked in a room by two men after he was accused of impregnating a family member in Tawau.

The 27-year-old was said to have been called to the house at Kampung Merotai Besar by his girlfriend after she told him that she was pregnant, said Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin.

He said the victim claimed that the girlfriend’s father told him to enter a room, where he was locked inside and assaulted.

“The woman’s father and elder brother who were present, allegedly beat up the man using a belt, punched and threatened him with a samurai sword,” he said.

ACP Jasmin said the woman’s family members also allegedly attacked the man using a hot iron, and he sustained burns on his arm.

He confirmed that the victim received a WhatsApp message from the woman telling him she was pregnant and another message around 7am on Dec 17 asking him to go to her house.

He reached her place at around 3pm, where he was allegedly cornered by the woman’s father and brother.

The victim, according to ACP Jasmin, escaped by breaking out of the room window and sought help from neighbours.

A police report was lodged, and at 10.30pm that same day, police detained two men aged 30 and 64, and a 25-year-old woman who was trying to flee the house.

Also seized were an iron, a mobile phone and a samurai sword, said ACP Jasmin.

He warned the public against making speculations about the incident while police were investigating the case.
