Partial power outage fully restored, says Sarawak Energy


KUCHING: A supply interruption caused by generator trip at the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) on Saturday (Dec 21) afternoon has been fully restored to affected consumers in certain parts of Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy) in a statement today said following the 12.57pm outage, power supply was progressively restored from 1.10pm onwards with almost all areas restored at 2.20pm.

"Full restoration to all residential areas was completed at 3.11pm,” it said.

Sarawak Energy Group Chief Operating Officer, James Ung thanked the public for their patience and understanding as the company’s technical teams worked to restore supply over the outage period.

"We have sufficient power to stabilise the grid and enough capacity to meet demand following system recovery at Bakun HEP. We have launched an immediate investigation into the cause of the incident.

"Sarawak Energy sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to our valued customers affected by the outage while our technical front liners worked to safely and swiftly restore power supply,” he said in the same statement.
