PETALING JAYA: Marine robotics company Ocean Infinity is set to be involved in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 for a second time.
The company was previously involved in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the aircraft, deploying the Seabed Constructor from January to May 2018.
At that time, the search was conducted under a "no cure, no fee" contract with the government.
In addition to the MH370 search, Ocean Infinity successfully located the wreck of the Argentine submarine ARA San Juan, which disappeared on 15 November 2017 in the South Atlantic during a training exercise.
The wreck was found a year later at a depth of 907m by the Seabed Constructor.
Founded in 2017 and based in Austin in the United States, and Southampton in the United Kingdom, the company uses robots to gather information from the ocean and seabed.
In 2019, the company also successfully located the French submarine Minerve, which disappeared in 1968.
The discovery was made by an Ocean Infinity vessel 45km from Toulon, 2,370m below the surface.
Ocean Infinity also provided the latest underwater vehicles for the successful 2022 discovery of famous explorer Ernest Shackleton’s ship, Endurance, in the Weddell Sea off the coast of Antarctica.
The ship became trapped in ice in 1914.
