Engineer files false police report to claim insurance

REMBAU: An engineer has falsified a police report, claiming to have been robbed and his Audi luxury vehicle stolen, in an attempt to claim insurance compensation.

Rembau district police chief Superintendent Shaik Abd Kadar Shaik Mohamed said that the 42-year-old man lodged the police report at 3:14 am on Saturday (Dec 22).

"The man claimed that he was stopped by two unidentified individuals on Friday at 10:22pm, who robbed him of his personal belongings and made off with his Audi car.

"However, further investigations revealed that he had filed a false report solely to claim insurance," he said on Sunday, as reported by Sinar Harian.

According to Supt Shaik Abd Kadar, the man was arrested at approximately 11:45am on Sunday at a restaurant in Pedas.

The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of six months’ jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

"The public must refrain from lodging false police reports, as this can have negative repercussions by creating a false perception of criminal activities, thereby disturbing public order..

"The police will not hesitate to take stern action against individuals who make such reports," he said.
