Missing fishermen found safe near Acheh waters

BALIK PULAU: Two fishermen feared drowned have been found safe in Indonesian waters near Acheh.

Balik Pulau OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam reported that the pair were located after their boat went missing on Monday (Dec 16).

"Both of them were found safe near Acheh provinces," he said briefly.

ACP Sazalee stated that the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will bring the fishermen back to Penang, with their arrival expected at about 7am on Dec 23 at Batu Maung Jetty.

He mentioned that the operation to bring back the survivors was delayed due to the current rough seas in the Strait of Malacca between Indonesia and Malaysia.

Earlier, the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the two local fishermen was called off on Saturday (Dec 21) after no new findings or clues emerged regarding the two victims.

Muhammad Ikmal Hakimi Ismail, 22, and Nor Hasrul Abdullah, 25, went missing after their boat was believed to have drifted in the waters off Kerachut, Kuala Sungai Pinang.

A press conference is expected to be held at 7.30am on Monday (Dec 23).
