IPOH: The persistent roof leakage issue at the Ipoh Railway Station during the rainy season is expected to be resolved by February 2025, says Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
The state infrastructure, energy, water, and public transport committee chairman stated that the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) has installed gutters and rainwater downpipes on the station's platform roof, completed in November 2024, as part of the measures to address the problem.
Additionally, RAC is conducting waterproofing works on the station’s flat roof, scheduled for completion by January 2025.
"RAC anticipates that by February 2025, there will no longer be leaks in the station’s departure hall," he said when contacted.
He added that inspections revealed excessive rainwater from the roof platform and a damaged waterproofing layer on the station's flat roof were the main causes of the leaks.
"By installing gutters and rainwater downpipes, large volumes of rainwater from the platform roof are now diverted into the drains. Meanwhile, the application of a waterproofing layer will prevent leaks from the flat roof," he added.
When asked about the number of complaints received, Nizar said this would need to be checked with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB). However, he noted that RAC has also received complaints from the Tourism Ministry.
Recently, the roof leaking issue during the rainy season has been highlighted on social media by visitors to the Ipoh Railway Station.
