Relief as lost fishermen to return home from Acheh

BALIK PULAU: The families of two fishermen – Muhammad Ikmal Hakimi Ismail and Nor Hasrul Abdullah – who were reported missing after their boat drifted in the waters off Kerachut, Kuala Sungai Pinang here, are grateful that they have been rescued off Acheh, Indonesia.

Ismail Ibrahim, 51, said police yesterday morning informed him that his son Muhammad Ikmal and Nor Hasrul had been found.

“God is great, that is all I can say. I was told that the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is on its way to bring them home. We wish to thank everyone who helped in the search and rescue operation,” he said, Bernama reported.

Muhammad Ikmal’s mother, Hanita Ismail, 47, said she had an instinct that her son, the fourth of five siblings, was alive.

Nor Hasrul’s stepfather, Mohamad Fitri Badiuzzaman, 38, said the whole family was grateful for the good news.

Earlier, Barat Daya police chief Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said Muhammad Ikmal, 22, and Nor Hasrul, 25, who were reported missing on Dec 16, had been found safe in Acheh waters.

He said they were expected to arrive at the Batu Maung Jetty in George Town today.
