Stray dogs behind gruesome feline deaths at UM, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR: The recent deaths of several cats at Universiti Malaya (UM) were caused by attacks by a pack of stray dogs, according to the findings of police investigations based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the Veterinary Services Department (DVS) confirmed the cats died from injuries sustained during the attacks.

“Police received three reports regarding the deaths on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

“However, no eyewitnesses were present during the incidents,” Comm Rusdi said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.

CCTV footage from the affected areas revealed the presence of stray dogs attacking the cats, shedding light on the tragic deaths.

Comm Rusdi urged the public to refrain from speculating on the matter, as it could lead to unnecessary anxiety.

He encouraged those with relevant information to contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.

Comm Rusdi also reminded the public to report cases of animal cruelty directly to the DVS through their official platform at awa.dvs.gov.my.

On Saturday, Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail called for immediate and thorough investigations into the gruesome deaths of several cats at UM recently.

She said the probe must examine all facts to uncover the truth behind these unsettling events.
