IPOH: The leaky roof at the Ipoh Railway Station is expected to be fixed in two months, says Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
The state infrastructure, energy, water and public transport committee chairman said among the measures taken by the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) was the installation of gutters and rainwater downpipes on the station’s platform roof – work that was completed in November.
He said the RAC is also carrying out waterproofing works on the station’s flat roof, scheduled for completion by next month.
“RAC anticipates that by February 2025, there will no longer be leaks in the station’s departure hall,” he said when contacted.
He said inspections had revealed that excessive rainwater from the roof platform and a damaged waterproofing layer on the station’s flat roof were the main causes of the leaks.
“By installing gutters and rainwater downpipes, large volumes of rainwater from the platform roof are now diverted into the drains.
“Meanwhile, the application of a waterproofing layer will prevent leaks from the flat roof,” he added.
When asked about the number of complaints received, Mohammad Nizar directed the query to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).
However, he said RAC had also received complaints from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry after the roof leaking on rainy days was highlighted on social media recently.
