Man dies of heart attack while driving, crashes lorry into parked vehicles in Johor

JOHOR BARU: A 30-year-old lorry driver died after suffering a heart attack while driving and crashed his vehicle into three parked vehicles on Jalan Station here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred on Monday (Dec 23) at 1.30pm when the man was on a delivery run for medical supplies.

“The accident occurred while the victim was driving the lorry and lost control of his vehicle.

“Initial investigations suggest the driver suffered a heart attack while driving, causing the lorry to veer into three parked vehicles on the right side of the road,” he said in a statement here on Tuesday (Dec 24).

ACP Raub added that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There were no visible physical injuries, and authorities suspect the heart attack was the cause of death,” he added.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and provide information at the Johor Baru South Traffic Police Station.

In an unrelated incident, Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz reported a collision between a lorry and a motorcycle on Jalan Paya Panjang, Bukit Pasir, Muar, at 3.45pm on Monday.

The accident occurred when a 27-year-old local lorry driver travelling from Pagoh to Muar encountered a motorcycle ridden by a 26-year-old Myanmar national.

“The motorcycle reportedly entered the main road abruptly from a left-side junction.

“The lorry driver attempted to brake and avoid the motorcycle but could not do so entirely, resulting in a collision.

“The lorry then veered off the road and struck an electricity pole,” he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz added that the motorcyclist sustained severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Muar Hospital. The lorry driver escaped unharmed.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
