JOHOR BARU: Police seized drugs valued at RM210,721 and arrested two men after dismantling a drug distribution syndicate operating in the city centre.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the arrests were made following a series of raids by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department on Dec 21.
“The first suspect is a 33-year-old man and he was arrested at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi.
“The team noticed his suspicious behaviour and found him carrying two packets of ecstasy powder during a search,” he said during a press conference yesterday.
ACP Raub said the suspect then led officers to a house in Taman Pelangi, where they discovered more drugs and arrested a second suspect, aged 40. He said the syndicate had been active since October, using the terrace house to package and store drugs, and a vehicle to distribute them at local entertainment centres.
“Among drugs seized was ecstasy powder in four packets designed to look like US dollar notes, likely to confuse authorities,” he said, adding that each packet is sold for between RM150 and RM200.
Both men tested positive for methamphetamine and ketamine, he said, adding that background checks revealed they have previous criminal and drug-related records.Police also seized RM120 in cash, a car and a set of keys from the suspects.
ACP Raub said the suspects have been remanded for seven days until Dec 28 to assist with investigations classified under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
