Woman killed, husband and sons injured in KK accident

KOTA KINABALU: A woman was killed while her husband and two children were hurt after the car they were travelling in ended up in a ditch after colliding with another vehicle in Jalan Lintas here.

In the incident at the Iramanis area, the 58-year-old woman, who was seated in front, was flung out about 50m from the car that was being driven by her 61-year-old husband.

The man was hurt while their sons aged 23 and 15 were also thrown out of the vehicle, but only suffered injuries in the 9pm incident on Sunday.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the family was returning home to Petagas from Inanam near here when the accident occurred.

He added that as the driver was changing lanes, he was startled by another moving vehicle.

“He quickly moved back to his lane. However, he lost control of his car and it collided with another car driven by a man in his 40s,” ACP Kasim said.

He added that the victim’s car then landed into a ditch on the left side of the road.

He said the three passengers in the car were thrown out of the vehicle.

ACP Kasim added that the woman died of serious head injuries, which was confirmed by a medical officer at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, he said.

Lintas Fire and Rescue station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said the two people travelling in the other vehicle were unhurt.
