PETALING JAYA: Allowing openness and dialogue can reduce racial discord, says Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.
The former law minister suggested these approaches, as alternatives to methods like barring the public from discussing or expressing grievances.
"The way to lessen racial discord is to allow for openness, dialogue, and a more tolerant environment from the government.
Why not try this method instead of barring people from talking or writing about their grievances? We have used oppressive methods all these years; why not try something new?" he posted on X on Wednesday (Dec 25).
He said that the government's approach to dealing with what is described as racial discord could be handled differently.
"All they keep telling us is to stop talking about it, or the police will come calling. Engaging and talking more among ourselves will not implode us. It might just solve half a century of problems we have let simmer," he added.
