Sarawak MMEA continues search for two missing crewmen

KUCHING: The search continues for two crew members of a fishing vessel believed to have capsized at Pulau Burong near here, says the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Sarawak.

Its Sarawak director Maritime First Admiral Kamal Ariffin Jusoh said the boat was heading out to sea on Dec 17 with six crew on board when it lost contact.

After it capsized, three of the six crew were eventually rescued by another fishing vessel some 3.5 nautical miles west of Pulau Burong on Monday and were brought to the Kampung Goebilt jetty.

They were Khlok Sem, a Cambodian, and two Indonesians – Adikah and Irman.

A fourth crew member identified as Chaloem Sonada from Thailand was found at 3.30am yesterday and taken to the Asajaya Health Clinic for treatment.

“The operation continues for the remaining two crew members, Cambodian Oeun Van and Thy Ny,” Kamal Ariffin said in a statement yesterday.

The operation started two days ago after the MMEA received a report on the missing vessel at 6.43pm the same day.

The operation is being carried out with the cooperation of the Marine Police and the Air Unit of the Royal Malaysia Police. — Bernama
