Two killed after motorcycle crashes into road divider on NSE

MUAR: A man and a woman were killed after their motorcycle crashed into the road divider at KM130.1 of the northbound lane on the North-South Expressway.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident occurred at 5.24pm on Tuesday (Dec 24).

“The victims are a 28-year-old local man, who was riding the motorcycle, and a 29-year-old Singaporean woman, who was the pillion rider. They were travelling from Johor Baru to Kuala Lumpur.

“The motorcyclist is believed to have lost control of the bike and crashed into the divider,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Dec 25).

ACP Raiz Mukhliz added that the crash caused the rider to fall onto the right lane of the northbound highway, while the pillion rider was thrown into the opposite southbound right lane.

“Both victims sustained severe injuries. The motorcyclist suffered major trauma to the head, right arm, and body, while the pillion rider had severe head and body injuries and lost her right leg.

“Tragically, both were pronounced dead at the scene,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The police have urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, particularly during festive seasons and school holidays.

Drivers are reminded to practise safe and courteous driving for their safety and the safety of all road users.
