MORE travellers are opting for motorcycle ride-hailing to beat the traffic congestion during the holiday season to go to Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration complex.

Borrowing the term “gojek”, the popular motorcycle ride-hailing service in Indonesia, riders said they earned the most during the holiday season, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Ashraf Aziz, 30, said his income grew three-fold due to the higher number of Malaysian tourists visiting Thailand.

“To beat the traffic jams, the travellers prefer motorcycle rides as there are special lanes for bikes here,” he said.

Ashraf said he would charge passengers RM15 each by taking them to the Thai border town of Danok.

“It takes us only about 10 minutes to clear immigration. During the holidays, it might take slightly longer because many people are using the motorcycle service,” he added.

Another rider, Abang Jo, 62, said he changed from driving a lorry to being a “motor tambang” rider a few weeks ago.

“During school holidays, there will be many visitors. On normal days, we do about six trips but at peak period, it can reach up to 20,” he said, adding that the service runs from 6am to 11pm daily.

> Tickets to an additional gig of the highly-anticipated Konsert GenKRU were sold out within 45 minutes, Harian Metro reported.

One of the band members, Datuk Norman Abdul Halim, said they were touched by the fans’ overwhelming response.

“However, we also take note of those who did not secure tickets.

“We are discussing with the organiser, Iman Tang from Icon Entertainment, to see how we can make those who failed to get tickets happy,” he said.

Apart from Norman, the famous trio also comprise his brothers Datuk Yusry and Edry.

Tickets for the first day of the event – to take place at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on May 3 – were snapped up within a day last week, said the organiser.

“This showed the love and gratitude of the fans to our trio in KRU,” it said in a statement.

Following the fantastic public demand, sales of tickets to a second day of the concert were launched on Monday.
