PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) of Malaysia will confiscate and forfeit commercial vehicles that do not comply with the regulations under the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715) and the accompanying Rules.
JPJ director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 27) that this would be done nationwide through “Gempur Teknikal” special ops, which began on Dec 25 following a series of accidents and deaths due to road incidents involving commercial vehicles.
“Through the enforcement action, the owner of the company or vehicle will be taken to task under Section 57 of Act 715 for the offence of suspected violation of the Operator’s Licence, which involves failing to prioritise other road users. If convicted, they can be fined under the same section, with a penalty of not less than RM 1,000 and not more than RM 500,000,” he said.
He added that the vehicle involved under Section 80 of Act 715 could be seized, and the vehicle could also be forfeited if convicted.
He said that during the special ops, JPJ would focus on enforcing regulations for commercial vehicles.
“The JPJ would also like to emphasise that there is no compromise on drivers or owners of commercial vehicles who fail to comply with regulations under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and the Rules thereunder, the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Act 1987 (Act 334) and the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715),” said Aedy Fadly
“The JPJ views seriously the trend of accidents involving commercial vehicles that cause the death of other road users,” he added.
