Mother, son killed in crash involving lorry in Mersing


MERSING: A mother and son were killed after their vehicle collided with a lorry at KM10 Jalan Jemaluang-Mersing, here.

Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the accident occurred at noon on Thursday (Dec 26) when the car was heading towards Mersing from Kota Tinggi.

“The vehicle was driven by a 65-year-old man. His 57-year-old wife and 35-year-old son were passengers.

“Initial investigations revealed that the driver had lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the lorry,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Supt Abdul Razak added that the two passengers in the car suffered severe head and body injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

“The car's driver sustained leg injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Mersing Hospital.

“The lorry driver, a 24-year-old man, escaped unharmed. However, his assistant, also a 24-year-old local, sustained leg injuries and is being treated at Mersing Hospital,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Supt Abdul Razak also reminded all road users to drive cautiously, obey traffic laws, and ensure their vehicles are in good and safe condition before travelling.
