Two killed in car-lorry collision in JB


JOHOR BARU: Two men lost their lives while another escaped unscathed in a crash involving a car and a 10-tonne lorry on Jalan Pontian Lama near the Taman Desa Skudai roundabout, here.

Skudai Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Suraini Adnan said the accident occurred at 12.11am on Thursday (Dec 26).

“We arrived at the scene at 12.17am, five kilometres from the station.

“The collision resulted in two victims, both aged 43. They were pronounced dead at the scene,” she said in a statement.

Suriani added that the rescue team, comprising seven personnel on a Compact Fire Rescue Tender (CFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS), swiftly utilised specialised equipment to extricate the trapped victim.

“The remains of both deceased individuals were handed over to the police and ambulance services for further action.

“The driver of the lorry, a 36-year-old man, survived the crash without sustaining any serious injuries,” she said.

The rescue operation lasted nearly two hours and was completed at 2.03am.
